Where does my text go after I dictate on the Mac?

Straight to your clipboard. Press ⌥⌘D, speak, and the transcript is ready to paste with ⌘V wherever you're working — the Mac app doesn't type into other apps. On iPhone, add the Outspoken keyboard under Settings → General → Keyboard → Keyboards, and enable “Allow Full Access” so it can share dictation with the main app; there the words land at your cursor directly.

Dictation isn't picking up my voice at all.

Check that Outspoken has Microphone access: on Mac, System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone; on iPhone, Settings → Outspoken → Microphone.

Why is a model downloading the first time I switch engines?

Parakeet and Whisper are higher-accuracy, multilingual engines that run fully on-device — their model files (roughly 1–1.6 GB) download once and are cached locally after that. Apple's built-in engine needs no download at all.

Does Outspoken work offline?

Yes. Once a model is downloaded, transcription, rewriting, and translation all run entirely on-device with no internet connection required.
