Agreement to these terms
By downloading, installing, or using Outspoken, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, don't use the app. These terms apply alongside Apple's standard End User License Agreement, which also governs your use of the app.
What Outspoken is
Outspoken is a dictation app for Mac and iPhone that transcribes, rewrites, and translates your speech entirely on-device. See our Privacy Policy for exactly what that means and what, if anything, leaves your device.
Free tier and Outspoken Pro
Outspoken is free to use, with a limit of 20 dictations per week and Apple's built-in transcription engine, rewriting personality, and history depth. Outspoken Pro removes the weekly limit and unlocks every rewriting personality, your full dictation history, and Apple Watch dictation. Your weekly dictation count is tracked locally on each device and resets on a rolling weekly basis; it is never uploaded anywhere.
Subscriptions and auto-renewal
Outspoken Pro is offered as an auto-renewing monthly or yearly subscription, or as a one-time lifetime purchase, through Apple's In-App Purchase system. Subscription payment is charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase. A subscription automatically renews for the same duration and at the same price unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the end of the current period, and the cost of renewal will be identified. You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time in your Apple ID account settings, on your device under Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions — cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period, and no partial refund is given for unused time. Any unused portion of a free trial, if offered, is forfeited when you purchase a subscription. Refunds are handled entirely by Apple in accordance with their own policies — we don't have the ability to issue refunds directly.
Lifetime purchase
The lifetime tier is a one-time, non-subscription purchase that unlocks Outspoken Pro permanently for your Apple ID, subject to these terms remaining in effect and the app continuing to be available.
Acceptable use
You agree to use Outspoken only for lawful purposes and in a way that doesn't infringe the rights of, or restrict or inhibit the use of, this app by anyone else. You're responsible for the content you dictate and for having any consent needed to record anyone else's speech.
Transcription accuracy and on-device processing
Transcription, rewriting, and translation run on local, on-device machine-learning models — Apple's Speech framework, Parakeet, Whisper, Apple's Foundation Models, or a local MLX model, depending on what you've selected. These models can make mistakes, mishear words, or produce imperfect rewrites. Outspoken is provided “as is,” without warranty of any kind regarding the accuracy, completeness, or fitness of any transcript for a particular purpose. Review important transcripts before relying on them.
Intellectual property
Outspoken, its design, and its code are our property or licensed to us. You retain full ownership of anything you dictate — we never see it, store it remotely, or claim any rights to it.
Termination
You can stop using Outspoken at any time by deleting the app. We may suspend or discontinue any part of the app, with or without notice, though we'll try to give reasonable notice of any change that affects a paid subscription.
Changes to these terms
If these terms change, we'll update this page and update the date below. Continued use of Outspoken after a change means you accept the update.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws applicable where the developer operates, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, except where local consumer-protection law requires otherwise.
